Fraud Watch
If you receive a call from any company offering you a credit card or other service
based on information you provide them, e.g., the last four digits of your debit or
credit card or Social Security number, BEWARE! This is a scam.
Call the Credit Union immediately at (510) 690-6100 if you think you have been
the target of a phone or email scam, and remember:
- Bay Cities will NEVER solicit personal or private information via telephone
or e-mail.
- If you have doubts about who is on the phone, call back the number on record
at your financial institution or card company.
- Always be wary of any messages received from an unknown sender.
- Do not open unsolicited e-mails or text messages.
- Never click on any links provided in unsolicited e-mails.
What can you do to protect yourself?
- Do not assume that the information displayed on your phone regarding the
caller's identity is accurate. It could be spoofed.
- Never give out personal or financial information over the telephone unless you
know EXACTLY with whom you are speaking.
- If you have doubts about who is on the phone, hang up and call your financial
institution back using the phone number on your statement.
- If you feel you have been the victim of fraud, file a complaint with the FTC
(Federal Trade Commission) via http://ftc.gov/.
- Monitor your credit reports and use effective passwords.
- Use Bay Cities Home Banking to track your transactions daily on checking and
credit card accounts.
