Remember to Sign for Your Purchases

When you sign for your purchases, Visa Debit card's security protections automatically kick in to help prevent, detect and resolve fraud with:

How can I make sure I receive Visa's extra security protections?

Just sign the receipt when you use your Visa Debit card. When you swipe your card, select credit on the keypad and sign. Or tell the cashier you want to sign for your purchase. You also receive added security protection for online, phone and mail orders, and for transactions under $25 that don't require your signature.

What happens if someone steals my Visa Debit card and uses it fraudulently?

If your Visa Debit card is lost or stolen and fraudulent activity occurs, you are protected by Visa's Zero Liability policy. That means 100% protection for you. Whether purchases occur online or off, you pay nothing for fraudulent activity.

If you notice fraudulent activity on your Visa Debit card, promptly contact the Credit Union or other financial institution to report it. It is important to continually monitor your transactions daily through Home Banking or on your monthly statement to identify any unauthorized transactions.

And you can use your Visa Debit card as a money management tool.

Because your Visa Debit card, payments are deducted directly from your checking account, transactions are typically posted within 24 hours of your purchase. That's faster than when writing a check! Plus, you can access your up-to-date balance through Home Banking or by phone 24/7. And of course, you will receive a monthly statement with all the details of your purchases, including merchant name, location, date and amount, so it's easy to see where your money was spent.

Non-Visa Debit Transactions:
Bay Cities Credit Union enables non-Visa debit transaction processing and does not require that all such transactions be au-thenticated by a PIN. A non-Visa debit transaction may occur on your Bay Cities debit card through any ATM Network. Below are examples to distinguish between a Visa debit and non-Visa debit transaction:

  • To initiate a Visa debit transaction at the point of sale, the cardholder signs a receipt, provides a card number (e.g., in e-commerce or mail/telephone order environments) or swipes the card through a point-of-sale terminal.
  • To initiate a non-Visa debit transaction, the cardholder enters a PIN at the point-of-sale terminal or, for certain bill payment transactions, provides the account number for an e- commerce or mail/telephone order transaction after clearly indicating a preference to route it as a non-Visa transaction. A non-Visa debit transaction will not provide the zero liability protection benefit, and if a Rewards program is present, a non-Visa debit transaction may not be an eligible Rewards transaction.

Provisions of the cardholder agreement relating only to Visa transactions are inapplicable to non-Visa transactions.
